A Little about Grace….
Honoring the Past:
Grace Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1939 in an existing church building that had been dormant for three years on B Street in Ceredo, West Virginia. The church began under the direction and authority of the Pollard Baptist Church located in Ashland, Kentucky and within months was commissioned as independent congregation. The old church building was tore down in the late 1970’s due to deteriorating conditions and replaced by the structure that exists today which opened its doors to visitors in July 1979. Many residents of Ceredo have passed through the doors over the years and for that we are truly thankful.
Active in the Present:
At Grace we never lose sight of the importance Sunday worship with the singing, teaching, and preaching of God’s word and Wednesday night prayer and bible study. These services are essential in the development of personal Christian wisdom and faith. These services are also essential to the underlying strength of the church itself. Our congregation is exhorted weekly on the importance of attendance, bible reading, and using the spiritual gifts that God has given each of us for the betterment of the whole.
We also understand though that the church is a community in itself where we are to exhort and encourage one another. As such, we are always seeking ways to engage one another outside of normal worship as well. It is our desire that life-long friends be made here. So whether it is taking a Saturday “field trip” together or just getting together to watch a good Christian movie and eat popcorn we are always looking for ways to become part of each other’s lives.
Until He Comes Again:
At Grace we recognize the primary responsibility of our church is share the gospel with the community and as much as possible with the world. Our global evangelism is accomplished by the supporting of several missionaries around the world and also through the sharing of our messages through the internet and mobile app. With our partnership with Sermon Audio we have had thousands upon thousands of messages downloaded by audio and video by computer and by our dedicated church app “Grace Ceredo.” It is not uncommon to see sermons downloaded in several states and faraway places like Japan, Brazil and Zambia. Our desire each month though is to reach more and further strengthen those who are faithful listeners.
As much as we understand the primary message of the church is the gospel of Christ we also understand that Jesus too looked on the masses and had compassion. Each year Grace reaches out to the community in several different ways. The photo above was taken at a “yard share” that we hold each year. Everything is free for the taking and usually we are left with very little by the end of the work day. Of course no one leaves without the written gospel as well. Grace also engages and supports the community in several other ways throughout the year as well and are always looking to do more.
